Small Business Owners Diet Tips

For many entrepreneurs, taking care of their health is the very last thing on their 'to do' list. Time and time again I see coaching clients sacrifice their well being to meet the demands of their business.

Since women business owners juggle both work and home , it is even harder. Watching Oprah's battle with weight shows how tough it is for women leaders to put their health first. For many women entrepreneurs, losing weight will be one of life's most difficult challenges.

Ladies! Don't be discouraged if you've tried losing weight in the past and you weren't able to -- or you lost weight but gained it all back. Studies at the Mayo clinic show that any people experiment with several different weight-loss plans before they find an approach that works.

Here Are Some Success Strategies To Help

• Focus your thoughts on the positive outcome for losing weight. Think of your new lifestyle as positive experience, not a negative one.
• Recent studies show that approaching weight loss with a positive attitude will help you succeed.
• Cut your goal in half. Most small business owners are used to setting very difficult goals, and then driving themselves to achieve them.
•
• In order to set realistic expectations for yourself, take your weight loss in 5 pound increments.
•
• Focus on behavioral changes and don't focus too much on weight changes.
• Use turnaround techniques. What have been the challenges in the past? Write down the obstacles, and come up with strategies for dealing with those obstacles.
• Make small, not drastic, changes to your lifestyle. Adjustments that are too intense or vigorous can make you uncomfortable and cause you to give up.

Accept the fact that you'll have setbacks. Believe in yourself. Instead of giving up entirely, simply start fresh the next day.

How Starting A Small Business Saved A Small Boy's Life

Starting a small company saved a grieving boys life, and landed him on Oprah.

After Eric's death, his twin brother Aaron said something that terrified his grieving parents. "He said that he didn't want to be here anymore."

They sent him to the family doctor. Dr. Corder. No one would have expected the family doctor to make an unusual perscription- become a entrepreneur. 'What do you like to do?' And he said, 'I like to cook.' I said to him, 'We're gonna cook for your brother.'"

Dr. Corder gave Aaron $20. "I'm gonna be your first investor," she says. "And I want a business plan."

On the ride home, the new entrepreneur Aaron made a shopping list and named his company DoughJangles. A week later, Aaron returned to Dr. Corder's office with a tray of cookies and a list of how he spent her $20.

Since that appointment been baking cookies, selling them to friends and Jeff's co-workers. Aaron even pays his big brother, Bryce, $2 a day for helping. Starting his own business helped Aaron to get over the loss of losing his brother.

A portion of every cookie's sale went to the charities that helped his brother when he was ill. Finding his hidden talent helped him to reclaim his life, and give back.

Today Eric met his small business hero, Paula Dean, on the Oprah Show today.

I Went To Prison For Oprah!

Is Oprah following me?

Here is my recent post. What I Learned From Prison Inmates. It documented what I learned as an Executive Coach from prison inmates. The video of the Freedom to Choose program developed by my alma mater, The University of Santa Monica will bring you to tears.

I can hardly describe what heartfelt, kind, wise women I met. This included women who were "Lifers" whose crimes were so violent that they will spend the rest of their days behind bars.

Glenn Close and Oprah have gotten together to do a story about the incredible things going on behind prison walls. Check it out.: "I Went To Prison For Oprah". It astonishes me that as a culture, that we treat dogs better than people.

Help For Oprah: 'Tis the Season of the Binge

OPRAH!!! (I am saying that in your Oprah show voice...so hopefully you will hear me.) O Magazine just arrived on my doorstep. There you are. Skinny Oprah and Fat Oprah. I feel your pain. I have been there.

Your comments tell me that a diet you haven't tried is TLC -- The Low Criticism Diet. You are teaching living from the inside out, and I will wager you a very large some of money (in Eli dollars) that if you really give yourself the TLC Diet, that will be the last diet you will need. I will be sharing it with you over the next month. But first:

Stop beating yourself up. Stop the rigid diets. Start accepting yourself.

Self criticism is one of the most fattening things around. The more you demean yourself for having a 'food mistake' the more you fuel having a binge. One binge fuels the next and all of a sudden you can't fit in your Obama Inauguration dress.

Until you reinvent your way of being with yourself, your weight is always going to victimize you.

Oprah, when you say, "I'm embarrassed. I'm mad at myself." you show that you haven't addressed the judgmental mindset that is a key component of yo-yo dieting. I should know, I have waged the same battle myself. The Low Criticism Diet is the only diet that silenced the insanity of my 20 year battle with food.

Remember food isn't the issue. Self love is. Don't feel bad, Oprah. Women gain between 8 and 15 pounds between Halloween and Christmas, said Jone Novek, wellness expert in Scottsdale, Arizona New York City. As an executive coach for women I am seeing a trend of working women putting their health at the bottom of their "To Do List." Does this sound like you, Oprah? I watch more and more women grumbling at the thought of prying themselves away from the office and toward greater health. During the holidays it gets even worse.

Oprah Is A Shoe Hog

Message boards at Oprah's site are buzzing with disappointed fans. As much of a confessed shoe freak as I am...I see that shoes are taking our gal Oprah down.

As much as we all love her O-ness, I think it was funky and a conflict of interest.

I am blasting Oprah for accepting $20,000 of shoes from Jessica Seinfeld. Hmmm.
This is the month that Jessica's husband Jerry Seinfeld was featured in Oprah's magazine. $20,ooo is what could keep a fan in groceries for a year!

I think I am going to ask for her Thanksgiving Leftovers
