Yes, You Can! Lessons From A 91 Year Old Drummer On An Oxygen Tank

As an executive coach in Santa Monica and speaker I am blessed to meet with so many amazing women and men. In these very interesting times I’m seeing a trend of people giving up on themselves. Do you have dreams that are still unfulfilled? Do they sit in the dusty, dark corner of the utility closet of your life?

Why does this happen?
Because of what you are telling yourself. Don’t believe me?

Do you find yourself telling yourself any of the following?
I can’t. I don’t have the training.
I can’t. I am too old.
I can’t. I might fail.

Each of us (myself included) pile that utility closet of our mind so full of negative garbage that it is no wonder that we never get to our dreams.

You already know that what you focus on grows. Here are some videos to give you the motivation to throw out your excuses instead of your dreams.

Longing for acceptance..Can we stop self criticism?

As a symbol of American consumer spending, Michael Jackson died in debt. According to The Wall Street Journal, Michael died about $500 million in debt. (Americans carry $2.56 trillion in consumer debt, up 22 percent since 2000 alone, according to the Federal Reserve Board.)

I am still scratching my head about Jackson's finances. How could a person amass that much debt? Then I remember watching a BBC special about Jackson back in 2003. Jackson was filmed spending $6 million on a shopping excursion in Las Vegas. He gathered up antiques the way you or I toss carrots in a grocery cart. Like many Americans, Jackson used compulsive shopping as a way to dull the pain of open wounds from his childhood. As I reflect on my Inner Michael, I see my own longing for acceptance. I certainly have used buying a new pair of shoes or several pair if they were on sale to calm my jangled nerves.

How can I offer the kindness instead of criticism to those parts of myself I find ugly and unacceptable? What about you?

Motivational Speaker Named Award Winning Motivational Author

As a motivational speaker I was THRILLED that Funky to Fabulous has just been named one of the Top 10 Motivational Books of 2007.

Hot diggity dog!!! Cupcakes for everyone!! And $20,000 of shoes for Oprah so that she'll have me on the show.

The National Best Book Award was given to Funky to Fabulous as one of 8 finalists in the Motivational Self Help Category. This is HUGE since this category has the most entries. To put it into perspective...a little book called "The Secret: was the winner of the category.

13 “FAB” Tips To Go From Whiner To A Winner

1. Center Yourself.
Take in a deep breath. Let it out. Now,
breathe in brilliance. Exhale out the burden. Do this three times so you feel more centered.

2. Ask for the Greatest Good.
As Mayor, take a moment and claim your office, and ask that your solutions be for the highest good for all.

3. Set Your Intention.
Set your intention to discover successful scenarios.

4. What Do You Want?
Take a moment to think of something fabulous you'd like to do, be, or have.

5. See It.
Let's say you want to double your income. Picture yourself enjoying the fun and freedom all that dough will give you.

6. Listen Up.
What goes on in your brain when you see yourself in those pictures? Do you hear all the reasons it won't happen? "It's impossible." "I can't make more money." "I got fired from my last job." "I'm not smart enough." Okey-dokey. Thank your Criticism Committee for showing up.

7. Make a Shift.
As Mayor, you are the one in charge of what you tell yourself. You can switch your self-talk.

8. Quick, a Pic.
Think of a way to make $1. Great. Now, think of an idea for making $100. Super. Now, think of an idea that will make $1,000. Excellent. Now, have a million-dollar idea. $1,000.000. Well done! (Every hairbrained concept counts!) Did you notice how you had different pictures for each?

9. Brainstorming.
Now, instruct your Mental Board to brainstorm solutions—how to manifest the picture of what you want. The best way to come up with a few really good ideas is to start with lots of ideas. They don't have to be good. They don't have to work. They don't even need to make a lot of sense. Just create a downpour of possibilities.

10. Write Them Down.
Jot down your Solution Solutions as they come to you (no editing or peeking from the Criticism Committee, please).

11. Review.
Once you have ten ideas (silly, stupid, and impossible ones count) reevaluate your list. Is there an approach you hadn't thought of? Is there a next step you can explore? Bravo! If not, that's fine too. You can keep playing the game to find the solution, instead of looking at the problem.

12. What You Focus on Grows.
Stay focused on what you want more of and how you can create it.

13. Thank Yourself.
Thank yourself for making a choice to discover the power of positive focus.

Funky to Fabulous

"Funky to Fabulous is really well done.

It reads as if you are speaking to me - I completely hear it as a present conversation with a girlfriend which makes it flow, easy to read and fun while providing very sensible and time-realistic exercises for deep issues/transformations. It also really does work as a "just turn to the page" guide for right now results (rather than having to read front to back to get a full message). There are exercises that I keep going back to and I love that I can use your book that way - get right to the point with clear step-by-step resolutions - and these exercises always call me straight back into the truth of fullness. Gotta love instant results! "

The book also captures your enthusiastic energy and your fabulous imagination for co-creation.

You Are the Mayor of You

The moment you decide to take dominion over what happens to you internally (regardless of the gunk and funk that can go on during a day) you step into your rightful place as the Mayor of You-ville. The instant you take office, you step up to the podium of your self-esteem and personal power. Hey, when I say personal power, I'm not talking about strutting through your life like a bad reality TV show diva. I'm talking about simply claiming the capacity that is already yours.

Think about what it means to be the Mayor of You-ville. You are able to speak up and set clear, healthy boundaries. (Even at work. Even with your kids. Even with your in-laws.) You are able to keep your cool with that creep from accounting. You are able to ask for what you want because what the heck, you're the Mayor. Take a moment and drink it in. Connect with
what being in charge of you feels like inside your skin. Most people feel a sense of expansiveness or serenity. What about you?

Go ahead. Stand up and feel what it's like to be Mayor. You might find yourself sashaying, or striding, or strolling. It seems that each Mayor has their own natural pace. And their own name. Folks have been the Captain of My Ship, the Goddess of My Temple, the Diva of Me, even the Magic Baker of My Town. What is yours? Sure, it may seem a little silly, but go for it. You are using parts of yourself that you may not have visited since you turned eight. Is there a tickle of happy in there? Let yourself find it.

Let's face it. You are and have always been the Mayor of Youville anyway. You just may have abdicated—like the rest of us. The moment you take office as The Boss, things can begin to change. The moment you stop pretending that someone else has snatched the remote control of your life, that's the moment your life transforms. How? You start choosing yourattitudes and your actions.

Even when you love someone more than life itself, you can't breathe their air or digest their food. We aren't wired that way. No one but you can assimilate the tuna melt sandwich you had for lunch. So too, no one but you can choose your attitude. The moment you grasp that it's you, only you, who can grant yourself authentic power, that's when you wake up. You stop being an innocent bystander in your own life and start becoming the co-creator of your days.
